Renée + Rhajhel
Ahead of an Antiguan sunset, we set sail along the island’s west coast to witness Renée and Rhajhel tie the knot, literally!
Aboard Gadaboat, the couple joined Captain George in guiding the sails, steering towards the perfect place to anchor, a secluded harbor that would become the backdrop to their most intimate vows. The wind softened, the tide hushed, and in the stillness of sea and sky, they promised forever. Their daughter, Raya, only eighteen months old and brimming with life, insisted on being part of every moment. With her tiny hands full of snacks and her parents’ embrace, she became the sweetest witness, adding her own energy and joy to the ceremony.
Having recently relocated to Antigua and Barbuda, Renée embraced the chance to plan her elopement with the same artistry she brings to life. Anything but a traditional bride, she booked her floating venue, styled her fiancé, created her bouquet, and on the day itself, styled her own hair and makeup. Her custom wedding dress, from the hands of Jamaican designer, Soshorna Henry of Renasci Life, told a story of elegance, authenticity, and love stitched across borders, being a true reflection of the couple.
When I met Renée for her bridal consultation, she shared her vision for her wedding day to feel natural, effortless, and full of joy; the way she and Rhajhel lived their lives.
In my decade of photographing weddings, I had never captured vows aboard a sailboat, yet I knew this would be a moment to create something unforgettable. And it was.
The tide carried us into a magical setting. With the sails full of wind and the horizon painted in light, I documented a love story both modern and timeless: a young Caribbean Black couple, deeply connected, choosing simplicity over spectacle and presence over perfection. Among anchored million-dollar yachts, it was the tenderness between them that shone brightest. Renée embracing motherhood, Rhajhel’s quiet admiration, and their laughter carried with the breeze.
This elopement was more than a wedding; it was a celebration of love, family, and the beauty of living fully in the moment. Every wave, every embrace, every glance added to their story, a reminder that the most meaningful moments are not always the grandest, but the most authentic.
